An Indigenous-Owned Internet Namespace — Built Together Our application was one of only 56 worldwide approved for ICANN's Applicant Support Program, reducing our initial fees by 75%. Yet, the work is far from finished. The challenge: Even with this relief, we still need funding to navigate the remaining evaluation phases, respond to community input, and establish the long-term infrastructure this namespace requires. Why this matters: .indigenous stands uncontended — no corporation, consortium, or rival community applied for this string. If we succeed through evaluation, .indigenous will become the first top-level domain owned and governed by Indigenous peoples. This is digital self-determination in action. FUNDRAISING GOAL: $82,000 CAD ($60,000 USD) WHERE YOUR CONTRIBUTION GOES:

Retiring the loan that financed the application fee — the loan was made to the applicant corporation and personally guaranteed by our founder, at significant personal financial risk

Funding evaluation to delegation — legal and technical requirements, community consultation travel, governance setup for the Community Advisory Body, and operational costs while we work with unpaid volunteers

TRANSPARENCY NOTE:

Donations are received by the Pelly Banks Aboriginal Society (the community's registered non-profit vehicle)

Funds are administered by 17161573 Canada Inc. for the .indigenous Initiative

A memorandum of understanding governs the relationship between these entities

Donations are not tax-receipted

WHY WE ASK:We are currently operating with unpaid volunteers. Your contribution helps us secure the professional support needed to keep .indigenous under Indigenous control — from application through delegation to operation. This initiative comes from the Pelly Banks (Nahonni Dena) Government, a distinct Kaska Dena community in the Yukon. We maintain our identity, language, and governance notwithstanding our 1956 forced amalgamation into neighbouring First Nations. A namespace owned and governed by Indigenous peoples is an exercise of sovereignty consistent with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Together, we build what was once erased.
